Yeah it’s fast and efficient and probably reliable but not worth a $ more than MSRP

Isn’t this a hybrid? Holy tall front end, and room for a family of four in the wheel well.

Production must not be meeting demand which I image is high. If I could afford one I would have ordered one already

I was just reading up. 42 miles of EV range is pretty good.....assuming it’s legit.

M y wife loves her Hybrid RAV4 but in a couple years she’d love to replace it with one of these.

Its the same situation as the Telluride. Low production numbers, dealers are aware of it, and will try to get the most out of the limited inventory they have because they think there is demand.

There’s a lot of info about how low production is. Something like 5,000 units for all of the US for 2021 model year, expected to go up to 20k for 2022 model year and beyond.
That’s stupidly low for something that is expected to have signfiicant demand. Unfortuantely that means that dealers have the upper hand and can pull this sort of BS.
This would be a great candidate for our next family vehicle, hopefully by the time we’re ready to buy in about 2 years this won’t be as much of an issue.

Even 20k units for a full year is a very small number. It will probably help but if this thing is going to be as popular as they expect will probably still be extremely supply constrained.

My experience owning 2 Toyotas is that their range and MPG estimates are quite conservative. Both have consistently gotten 5 mpg more than advertised and my 2019 goes nearly 100 miles past the estimated range. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if this car easily gets past 50 miles all electric.

The prime is actually an inch or two lifted compared to the standard Rav4 because of the batteries

As CFS noted, the batteries are under the car so it has a bit of a suspension lift to accomodate them and still maintain similar ground clearance to other variants. Also given this battery placement doesn’t result in any real sacrifice to cargo capacity, which is a huge plus compared to other plug-in options that were put together more hastily.
And yes, most reviews are very positive and advertised range seems accurate. It’s not a handler while it’s fast in a straight line - but even without that element, a really good option for a family hauler that can be an EV for 99% of use cases and have ICE backup/option for longer trips. Just wish they had prepared for higher production numbers.

Yeah there are posts on r/askcarsales people wondering what the secret to getting a deal on a Rav4 prime is
There is no secret. Supply is low, demand is high, and there is clearly 5000 fools willing to pay 10k over sticker and preorder one.

That’s nuts. The MSRP is already too high, but the very limited early release is probably the cause. They’ll surely sell every single unit they produce in rapid fashion until they hit their tax credit ceiling.

FOR THE LOVE OF ANYTHING AUTOMOTIVE...
PUT A SPICY VERSION OF THIS DRIVETRAIN IN SOMETHING SPORTY.
Celica 3-door front-engine AWD 2+2 sport/GT coupe with an electric rear axle and rear-biased 4-wheel torque vectoring.
MR2 mid-engine with electric front axle , like an affordable alternative to what i8 was, and something like a mass-produced PHEV Evora...
something FUN, sleek, gorgeous, and affordable that is worthy of a non-wealthy automotive enthusiast, that doesn’t need to make excuses for itself.
Not even TESLA will build a 3-door coupe/convertible variant of the Model 3/Y platform to bring people over from Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, Nissan Z, etc... to forward-looking technology.
